[R]evolution: Awakening Into The Woman You Were Meant To Be

Part of your [R]evolution is reaching the understanding that you don’t need to change who you are to change who you are.

Wait! What?!

You don’t have to go back to square one and rewrite the story of your life. It’s your stories that have created your life and evolved you to this point. It’s about starting where you are and moving forward from here.

Step by step.

Intention by intention.

Forget the Inner Critic that says you have to begin again; jettison everything you are, everything you’ve built in your life in order to become the woman you’ve always wanted to be.

Forget being “ready” for it when it comes.

No one is.

Your wake-up call will come when you’re loading the dishwasher, in the middle of a meeting, driving to work, sitting at your desk amidst a stack of papers.

One day when you’re paying the bills the wind will blow through you, and you’ll wonder why you feel a chill all the way down to your soul when all the windows and doors are shut and it’s a comfortable 72 degrees inside.

This is your wake-up call.

It’s the beginning of the kiss. The beginning of falling in love with yourSELF.

It may not feel like a wake-up call at all.

It may come as a prayer, a longing in the stillness of the night as you lie awake ruminating about the secrets you keep – even from yourself; the way you push your own yearnings deeper and deeper inside; the way you keep looking for signs – external validation and permission – to be who you are meant to be.

It may come as haunting, barely audible music playing in the wild places of your desires. Your dreams. Waiting to be awakened. Set free.

Your call may lay dormant, repressed, denied, ignored until the moment the sky sets fire and lays waste to all the small comforts you’ve so carefully collected, turning the life you’ve created into ash. Dust.

No matter how your wake-up call comes – and it will come, because it’s your destiny – you will say you’re too busy, you have more important things to do: raising your children, managing your career, focusing on your marriage or your relationship, worrying about your aging parents, meeting that project deadline, preparing your kids for college, planning for the holidays…

You’ll want to shoot the messenger. She has you confused with someone else. You don’t have a Sheroic bone in your body, and you can’t possibly accept this invitation to fully embrace yourSELF right now.

You’re too old.

You’re too young.

You’re not financially ready.

You’re not emotionally ready.

You’re metaphorically blind.

You’re metaphorically deaf.

You’re waiting for someone to kiss you awake, to give you permission.

But it’s already too late, once you’re called. No denial, no resistance, no “but, but, but” sputtering can stop it from awakening, so please don’t go back to sleep.

The kiss of unconditional love and acceptance comes from deep within. It’s yours to give. It’s yours to receive. It’s your sacred birthright. Open your eyes. Kiss yourself awake. Be your own Prince Charming.

The calling itself is your qualification. Your invitation. Your permission.
